🎯 The Why
Anyone who has ever looked for a job knows that the process is often more exhausting than the work itself. Nowadays people are using Excel, Google Sheets or even paper to track their job application processes. Between managing dozens of open tabs, tracking follow-ups, and constantly tailoring CVs, the "chaos of the hunt" is a real mental burden. I built ONboard to turn that chaos into a structured strategy. My aim was to move beyond a simple "list of jobs" and create a platform that acts as a personal career assistant, giving users the clarity and competitive edge they need to land their next role.
🧭 My Role & Who Uses It
I built ONboard for my own job search first. Friends who were applying at the same time started using it as well, and their requests, together with my own frustrations, became the roadmap: each version grew out of a real need rather than a feature wish list. I'm still its most active user.
🚀 How it helps
ONboard isn't just about recording data; it’s about reducing the cognitive load of the job seeker. By combining an intuitive Kanban tracking system with advanced AI, the application helps users visualize their progress while automating the most tedious parts of the application process- like manual data entry and tone-polishing.
⭐ Key Features (Designed with User in Mind)
The Smart Kanban: A drag-and-drop board that tracks the lifecycle of an application. I implemented features like "Auto-Ghosting" detection to help users mentally move on from inactive applications, keeping their focus where it matters.
AI-Powered Ingestion: Using Gemini AI, users can instantly extract job details from a link or description. No more copying and pasting; the app handles the "boring" parts.
Career Assistant Suite: A set of specialized tools including a CV Analyzer for ATS optimization, a Skill Translator, and an Interview Prep engine. These aren't just features; they are tactical tools designed to help users present their best selves.
Actionable Analytics: A dedicated dashboard that visualizes the "funnel" of their applications, helping users understand where they are succeeding and where their strategy might need a pivot.
Save Data Through Account Auth: Added job postings and CV's are saved in the account and can be exported/imported as CSV format for ease of data transfers and protection.
🔄 An Iterative, User-First Process
The development of ONboard was not a straight line; it was a cycle of building, listening, and refining. I iterated the features in the building phase, got feedback from users and built and polished upon them.
Early versions focused heavily on the tracking aspect, but through an iterative design process, I realized that tracking was only half the battle. Users were struggling with quality, not just organization. This led to a strategic pivot where I integrated LLM-powered edge functions to provide real-time feedback on CVs and interview preparation. Basically, the demand created the product.
I constantly refined the UI -moving from a cluttered interface to a focused, "calm" design- to ensure that the application itself didn't add to the user's stress. Every feature, from the corporate tone adjuster to the automated status updates, was born from a desire to solve a specific pain point in the modern job seeker’s journey.
