🎯 The idea
Weiter answers one question every day: what should I study today? It covers German from A1 to B2, with English for the interface and translations, and I use it to learn German myself.
⭐ What it does
Today: the daily plan, a day streak, and a full session of 12 exercises across all six skills when I have more time.
Words: the Goethe word lists A1 to B2 as cards, with coloured articles and example sentences, read aloud by the phone's German voice. There are also 300 fill-the-gap sentence cards.
Lessons: each one covers vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, writing and speaking, around everyday topics like finding a new home or travelling by train. Exercises are short, for example 6 questions in about 3 minutes.
Path: grammar chapters and themed topics in a fixed order (28 chapters at A2), always with a clear "up next".
⚖️ Key decisions
The plan fits my time: I choose 10, 25 or 45 minutes, and the daily plan is built for that budget.
Reviews come first: spaced repetition (FSRS) brings each word back when it is due. The daily plan starts with these reviews before new material.
No account, data on the phone: progress is saved in a local database on the device, and I can export a backup file.
Podcasts stay with their source: the app remembers where I stopped and can repeat a section, but it does not copy or host any podcast audio.
💻 Tech
App: React, TypeScript and Vite, packaged for Android with Capacitor
Data: SQLite on the device
Learning: FSRS spaced repetition (ts-fsrs), Android text-to-speech
🚦 Status
I use Weiter on my own Android phone. It is installed as an APK and is not on Google Play yet. Weiter started as a website with about 44 published versions. The Android app is now the main version.
